Product Overview
The GIGABYTE B550M K WIFI6E is a Micro ATX AM4 board on the AMD B550 chipset that adds Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 to GIGABYTE’s B550M K line, with four DDR4 slots, a PCIe 4.0 graphics slot and two M.2 sockets.
It is built for budget and mid-range Ryzen builds where a wired LAN cable is not practical: bedrooms, condo units and home offices far from the router. It takes everything from Ryzen 3000 to Ryzen 5000 and the G-Series APUs, and it has DisplayPort and HDMI outputs for builds that run on integrated graphics.
Key Features and What They Mean
Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 Built In
GIGABYTE fits a MediaTek Wi-Fi 6E MT7902 module supporting 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz with 160MHz channels, plus Bluetooth 5.3 for controllers, headsets and keyboards. The module is 1T1R, a single antenna stream, so in our assessment it is a convenience feature for browsing, streaming and online games rather than a replacement for a LAN cable when moving large files.
To use the 6 GHz band you need a Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 router; on older routers the board still connects on 2.4 and 5 GHz.
PCIe 4.0 Graphics and Storage with Ryzen 5000
With a Ryzen 5000 or 3000 processor, the x16 slot and the first M.2 socket (M2A_CPU) run at PCIe 4.0. With G-Series APUs such as the Ryzen 5 5600G or 5600GE, both drop to PCIe 3.0, which is a processor limit rather than a board limit.
The second M.2 socket (M2B_SB) is PCIe 3.0 x2 from the chipset, fine for a game library or bulk storage drive but slower than the CPU-connected socket. Four SATA ports with RAID 0, 1 and 10 cover hard drives and 2.5-inch SSDs.
DDR4 Up to 128GB
Four DIMM slots take up to 128GB of dual-channel DDR4, with official speeds to 3200 MT/s and XMP overclocked speeds up to 4733 MT/s depending on the processor and modules. Two matched sticks in the recommended slots are the sensible start; the other two slots leave room to upgrade later.
Display Outputs for APU Builds
DisplayPort 1.4 (up to 5120 x 2880 at 60 Hz) and HDMI 2.1 (up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz) work with Ryzen processors that have integrated graphics. Ryzen 5000 non-G CPUs such as the 5600 or 5600X have no graphics, so those builds need a graphics card.
Competitive Positioning
The B550M K WIFI6E sits at the entry end of B550: it gives PCIe 4.0, two M.2 sockets and wireless, but it keeps a simple feature set with one system fan header, no front USB-C header and Gigabit LAN.
Compared with GIGABYTE’s plain B550M K, the difference is the Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth module and its antenna connectors. If the PC will sit next to the router on a LAN cable, the non-Wi-Fi board does the same job; if not, buying the WIFI6E version is usually tidier than adding a separate PCIe or USB Wi-Fi adapter later.
Philippine Buyer Perspective
Our Take
This is a practical board for AM4 builds where wireless matters more than overclocking features. In many homes the router sits in a different room from the PC, and built-in Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth saves both a slot and a USB port.
Plan cooling around its one system fan header: a case with three or more fans needs a fan hub or splitter, or fans that daisy-chain. For heavy overclocking or high-end Ryzen 9 builds, a higher-tier B550 board with more fan headers and overclocking features is the better match; for Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 gaming and office builds, this board covers what most buyers use.
